M63 (catalog designtion NGC 5055) is often referred to as The Sunflower Galaxy.  It is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici in which it consists of a spiral disc, surrounded by many short segmented arms.  It was discovered by Pierre Mechain on June 14th 1779.  The Sunflower Galaxy is part of the M51 group of galaxies that also includes The Whirlpool Galaxy.
