NGC 1976 (also known as Messier42, M42 or the Orion Nebula) is a diffuse nebula located in the sword just below the belt in the constellation Orion.  M42 is located at an approximate distance of 1,344 light-years and it is also one of the brightest nebulae visible to the naked eye in the night sky.

NGC 1982 (also known as Messier 43, M43, De Mairan's Nebula or the Running Man Nebula) is a H II region located just .1 degrees NE of the Orion Nebula. This nebula is actually part of the Orion Nebula seperated by a lane of dust.

ABOUT THE IMAGE

DATE/TIME:  The evening and early mornings of November 25th and 26th, 2011.

CAMERA:  Canon XSI, 450D modified

TELESCOPE:  Orion 100ED @ F/7.65

MOUNT:  Celestron CG-5GT.

TOTAL IMAGES:  71 - 19x30sec, 40x60sec, 12x200sec.

ISO SETTING:  800

TOTAL IMAGE EXPOSURE LENGTH:  1hr, 29min, 30sec.

SUBTRACTIONS: 10 dark frames and 10 bias frames for each set of exposures.

CAPTURE: MaximDL

STACKING/PRE-PROCESSING: Deep Sky Stacker
